So my first days in Helsinki were hectic to say the least!
I arrived from the airport and took the wrong bus to my apartment - woehoew!
Once I got settled in and met my roommates (from the Netherlands and Germany);
I checked if there was internet but unfortunately it didn't work :(
But the good thing is that I am really happy with my apartment, it is in a park and really lovely to walk and just enjoy the nature that Finland has to offer. It is perfect for me because I can just put my running shoes on and start running.
The Finnish people are friendly and welcoming and a bit weird..; but they are probably thinking the same thing about me as well.. I adjusted the image they have about Belgians... Sorry not sorry!
By now they probably assume all Belgians are sarcastic, funny, beautiful... and modest of course! ;-)
I found out they have championships in the weirdest disciplines ever, and with weird I mean really weird!!! (Wife carrying, playing air guitar, ...)
The last few days have been really exhausting, (and sleeping in the worst bed ever doesn't really help) but I met a lot of people of whom I have already forgotten their names (sorry!), and we made a lot of plans to visit the rest of Finland.
The thing I am probably most excited about is the IKEA trip on Sunday; so I finally get to eat something decent. (IKEA MEATBALLS FTW!!!!)
I put some pictures in the gallery (under the category "pictures" - obviously) from the railway station, and pictures of the afternoon when we went to get a drink at the music centre, it's a really beautiful place to lay down, have a picknick and just enjoy the sun (while it lasts).
When I asked my coordinator if the winter would be really that cold or if everyone was just overreacting, I was relieved when she told me that it is really warm in Helsinki compared to the other parts of Finland.. I was freaking out when she told me that "warm" actually meant -20°... Can't wait for the winter to start...(not- why did I pick this city again?! ;-) )
Bye bye!! - or in Finnish: moi-moi !!
